Camps and Lodges in Samburu & Shaba National Parks

The Samburu National Reserve is situated in the hot fringes of the arid northern region of Kenya, where the Ewaso Ngiro River provides the only relief from the relentless equatorial sun. The region is epitomised by gaunt hills, punctuated by scrubland and occasional clusters of vividly coloured desert rose. Here you can view the rare Grey zebra, Reticulated giraffe and Beisa Oryx. Buffalo Springs National Reserve is separated from the Samburu National Reserve by the Ewaso Ngiro River and is equally scenic. Accommodation options in this region include safari lodges and clubs.

The semi-arid country of northern Kenya, framed by volcanic mountain ranges and dotted with lakes, each unique. Throughout the region, rare animals abound; the Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s Zebra, and long-necked Gerenuk. Adjacent to this area is the beautiful Meru National park home of Elsa the Lioness befriended by Joy and George Adamson and featured in Joy’s Book and the film, Born Free.

Similar in the flora and fauna the three reserves of Samburu, Shaba and Buffalo Springs are situated around the Uaso Nyiro River. The park lies in a semi arid, open savannah plain broken occasionally by small rugged hills.

All of the tents have a viewing deck that overlooks the natural spring next to the camp. The resident wildlife uses the spring as their principal source of water.

Samburu Lodge

Samburu Lodge was opened in July 13, 1963, and is set in a rugged landscape with a backdrop of jagged mountains and its own indigenous wildlife unique to the northern region of Samburu Reserve.

The landscape, wildlife and vegetation are very different to the lush rolling grasslands of other parks. Samburu Kenya is a place for Lopard, Lion, Elephant and Crocodile. It is the place of the semi-nomadic Samburu tribe. A place of thorn bush open plains and vast horizons. It gives you a taste of the romance of the African desert in Kenya. Beautifully situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, everything at Samburu is geared to making the most of the lodge’s spectacular setting.

Samburu Serena Lodge

Set in a landscape of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers, this refreshingly rustic lodge is renowned for the timeless beauty of its landscape and the serene tranquility of its setting. Nestled amidst the acacia groves that border the crocodile-filled reaches of the Ewaso Nyiro River, the lodge stands centre-stage to miles of lion-stalked grasslands, elephant-studded plains and wildlife-teeming bush. It is also ideally placed for visits to the neighboring parks of Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserve. Experience the serenity and tranquility of Samburu at the Samburu Serena Safari Lodge.
